The sad truth is that pride, if left unchecked, cuts us off from other people, and can ultimately cut us off from God. Jesus extols the virtue of an unassuming humility in today’s parables.
The letter to the Hebrews today speaks about the importance of spiritual discipline. God invites us to be disciplined believers, to strengthen our drooping hands and brace our weak knees and endure all our trials with a measure of trust in the Lord.
This is Jesus’ lament and it is our challenge: to keep the fire of the Kingdom of God brightly lit and to spread it like a wildfire in the dry summer heat.
St. Luke touches on this theme of human anxiety in today’s gospel. My friends, we spend many waking hours worrying and being anxious about many things over which we have no control.
