One of the pitfalls, the obstacles to a deep, abiding faith in God is ingratitude. The sad truth is that we can go days without pausing to thank God for favors big and small, for actual graces we beg for and those that come to use by surprise. Our God is always up to something good in our lives... trying to comfort us or heal us or forgive us or teach us or just nudge us in the right direction. The question for us to consider is “how can I repay the Lord for all the good he has done for me?”
One easy way is to develop the habit of thanking God at the end of every day… for favors grated, for prayers answered, for unexpected gifts received, for simply being the loving and merciful God he is. Another way of thanking God is praying together at Mass, offering the great prayer of praise and thanksgiving with the gifts of bread and wine placed on the altar.
