During the entire month of November, Catholics traditionally pray for the souls of their faithful departed. Though death can be a menacing foe to us in the course of our lives, our faith tells us that we all share in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior by virtue of our baptism, and in the promise of eternal life that the grace of baptism bestows on us. For Christians, faith comforts; it reassures; it keeps hope alive that death is not the final word on our lives… resurrection is. And so, as we receive Holy Communion during this month of November, let us pray: “May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen!”
