Anyone who ever doubted that Jesus was fully human needs only to ponder today’s gospel. In a moment of righteous anger, Jesus drives the moneychangers out of the area just outside the temple, a space dedicated to the worship of his heavenly Father. But Jesus managed his anger. He didn’t hit or curse; he did not demean or humiliate. To be human is to get angry from time to time. But to be fully human is to manage and channel that anger properly. So may the grace of Christ flowing from the Eucharist help us to manage our anger, and channel our passion so that our anger gives way to something good and holy… like justice for the wronged, healing for the wounded, and especially love for our neighbor!
