Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

How do we grow rich in what matters to God? How do we get our spiritual security? The answer is faith in Christ. The answer is life in Christ. The answer is being a disciple of Christ. The answer is daily prayer and Sunday Eucharist, and the regular celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation. The answer is the moral fiber to reverence life in all its stages. The answer is to work for justice like a prophet and love with the heart of the Good Samaritan. The answer is not bigger and sturdier barns but larger and softer heart. Everybody is concerned with security these days. The way to a secure future is union with the Lord, a union we share in this very assembly, particularly in receiving the Eucharist, our Holy Communion which is a sign of our ultimate security in Christ.
