In the gospel story of Jesus’ transfiguration, Peter, James, and John catch a glimpse of Jesus as God the Father saw him. The gift of faith had already brought these disciples to an initial belief in Jesus, but when he was transfigured, they saw him more clearly – and they got a sneak preview of how they would see Jesus after his resurrection and when he returned in glory. My friends, if the transfiguration requires anything of us modern day disciples of Jesus, it is to get rid of our masks and let others catch a glimpse of God in us. And may we let go of labels, misconceptions, negative first impressions, and resentments of others… and try harder to get a glimpse of them as God sees and loves them!
