St. Luke touches on this theme of human anxiety in today’s gospel. My friends, we spend many waking hours worrying and being anxious about many things over which we have no control. When we don’t know what the future will hold for us, we get anxious. In the face of all this human anxiety, God offers us his own house -- the Church -- and a lamp first lit at our baptism, and tells us to wait patiently for his loving care. And the Lord blesses us with the grace of faith which brings with it the assurance of things we hope for. God does not leave us alone to fend for ourselves with high anxiety. The Lord helps us deal with all the uncertainties and unknowns of our lives by giving us Jesus, the word of the Lord and the Body and Blood of Christ, so that we can put our trust in God’s care for us.
