Love is stronger than death. This line is from the Canticle of Solomon in the Bible, and I think it says it all on this Solemnity of Christ’s Resurrection. This is the good news we celebrate at the empty tomb of Jesus this Easter Sunday.
It is true that there is still a lot of darkness in our world today. But we stand under the light of the Easter Candle and we profess our faith in Jesus, we are sprinkled with the holy water that renews us in the grace of baptism, and we receive the heavenly bread which is no less than the sacramental Body of the risen Lord. And as a result, we can all rejoice with Mary Magdalene and all the other original witnesses to the Lord’s resurrection. For Christ is not in the tomb. He is risen! Thanks to him, love is very much alive. Amen! Alleluia!
