There is so much more in the biblical account of the Passion of Jesus Christ than a sad tale. This is not just the story of an innocent man being falsely convicted, and subjected to a cruel form of capital punishment. It is the story of the Son of God following his conscience, accepting his destiny as the Messiah, standing for truth regardless of what it would cost him. It is the story of the Anointed One of God suffering abandonment, rejection, beatings, and crucifixion, and never once responding with violence and revenge. It is the story of Immanuel; God-with-us, living with integrity to the last drop of his blood. It is the story of our redemption from sin, the story of our salvation, and its promise of eternal life. May this story of our salvation renew us, and give us the patience to endure our trials, the strength to love our neighbors, and the courage to live the gospel with integrity every day.
