The Scripture readings today are all about being a full-time believer. In the first reading, Moses is instructing the people of ancient Israel to live the commandments. In the second reading, James is telling the first Christians to be doers of the Word and not just hearers, to live the teaching of Christ and not just believe in it. And in the gospel reading, Jesus says the same thing to his disciples -- live your faith in me and what I have taught you; love your neighbor as yourself, forgive you enemy, serve the lowly with a merciful heart. The gospel today calls us to full, integrated Catholic life. Such a life thrives on the grace of Christ that is poured out for us on the cross, and made available to us in the Word of God, the sacraments, the teaching and the ministry of the Church.
