Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do innocent people suffer? Why does God allow evil in our world? Why me… why us… why them, O Lord? The honest answer to all these questions is really “we don’t know.” God’s ways are not our ways. We do know when bad things happen to us, God loves us and extends to us the light of his gracious love. This is the light that releases us from the blindness of the Pharisees, the light that frees us from the blindness of the blind man’s parents, the light that helps us see not only the specks in every one else’s eyes, but the plank in our own. May this Eucharist heal all our blind spots and enable us to see our lives ever more clearly with the eyes of faith even when bad things come our way!
