You may have heard somebody say: “I don’t know where I would be without my faith?” In times of loss or heartache, or when we face difficult decisions, there is nothing like the main resource of faith, which is prayer. Prayer changes everything because prayer sheds the light of Christ’s grace on everything, including any cross that we might be asked to carry. Prayer is our guide to discerning and doing the right thing.
The story of Jesus climbing the mountain to pray is one episode among many in which Jesus pauses from his travels and his ministry to enjoy time with his Father in prayer. This Lent, why not follow Jesus’ lead, and develop a regular habit of pausing in the midst of our daily activities, our busy schedules to pray. A quick trip up the mountain to enjoy communion with the Lord is like an afternoon nap when you’re really exhausted, some exercise when you’re feeling sluggish, a light snack when you’re starting to get hungry. May we let the graces that flow from prayer change our hearts and lives this Lent, especially the graces that God gives us in the Eucharist.
