Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
There are many profiles in courage about disciples of Jesus; men, women, and children who are determined to be faithful to Christ and his mission, no matter what. But following Christ can be costly. Coming face-to-face with the demands of discipleship many of us get antsy and we start looking for excuses to bale out of our commitment to follow Christ.
My friends, baptism is a lifetime commitment… the fact is you can never get unbaptized! Sooner or later, we all have to face the same question Elijah posed to Elisha in the first reading and Jesus posed to his disciples in the gospel: Whose plan do you want to follow the rest of your life… yours or God’s? Fortunately, the Word of God lights our way, and prayer lifts our minds and hearts to God, and the Eucharist nourishes us to be faithful to Christ through thick and thin. May our communion with the Lord and each other today strengthen us to follow Christ as his disciples… no matter what happens in the week ahead!
