Today, we celebrate Christ as our leader in the work of salvation. The gospel presents Christ as the Good Shepherd. If we heed his voice and follow him wherever he takes us, we will be safe and sound, and well fed in everlasting life. Our primary call is to follow the Lord. But we are all also called to be assistant shepherds of Christ’s people, each according to our particular vocation and state in life. In other words, we are all first and foremost followers of Christ, but we are also leaders -- shepherding others, laying down our lives for others, being truth tellers and justice seekers, guarding against the dangerous wolves of sin, and leading others to Christ.
May we all be obedient members of the flock of Christ, and with the help of the Eucharist, do what it takes to be effective leaders, guiding others to Christ, our Good Shepherd!
